Built in the early 12th century and designated a National Treasure, it is adorned with mother-of-pearl inlay and gold leaf. Houses the remains of three generations of the Fujiwara clan. In 2011, it became the core component of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Hiraizumi – Temples, Gardens and Archaeological Sites Representing the Buddhist Pure Land.'
