Japanese Taiko Drumming Culture

A taiko ensemble originating from Sado, Niigata Prefecture, founded in 1981. It blends traditional taiko drumming techniques with contemporary artistic creativity, establishing a unique performance style. Through worldwide tours, Kodo has been a pioneer in promoting Japanese taiko culture globally and remains one of the world's most recognized Japanese performing arts groups.

A ghost storytelling art inherited since the Edo period. Distinct from rakugo and kodan traditions, it fuses fear with aesthetic beauty in Japanese folklore. Continued by contemporary kaidan tellers, it is particularly famous through summer kaidan gatherings held nationwide, maintaining its cultural significance.

Artists like Ishikawa Sayuri and Kitajima Saburo are internationally recognized as symbols of Japanese culture. Through broadcasting rights, enka continues to represent modern Japan's popular culture.
