A project digitizing and databasing traditional environmental management knowledge—Edo-era farming, forestry, water management techniques, folk remedies, and craft technologies. Applied to Biodiversity Convention and Nagoya Protocol compliance, intellectual property protection, and technology transfer to Asian emerging economies. Led by Kyoto University and the Cultural Affairs Agency, positioned as a national initiative to document, preserve, and apply Japan's endangered 'environmental knowledge.'

日本獨有的水淨化技術，結合逆滲透膜、紫外線處理與生物學處理方式。從下水道高度處理到產業廢水的再利用，實現全面的水資源循環。作為同時解決缺水地區供水需求與降低環境負擔的先進技術，獲得國際認可。

1997年由日本經濟產業省與環境省聯合啟動的資源循環型地域發展事業。北九州市、川崎市等全國26個地區獲得認定，形成零排放型的產業集積。兼顧產業廢棄物再資源化與地域經濟活性化的日本發循環經濟模式。

日本古來的價值觀，意為「不可浪費」或「物品珍貴不應浪費」。由環保人士旺加里·馬塔伊（Wangari Maathai）向世界介紹，成為國際認可的環保標語。此概念涵蓋減量（Reduce）、重複使用（Reuse）、回收（Recycle），並加上尊重（Respect）的精神內涵。
