A citizen movement transforming vacant urban land and parks into multilayered ecosystems featuring edible trees and vegetables, aiming to enhance local food production and self-sufficiency. Also called food jungles, based on ecological design (permaculture) principles for sustainable food production systems. Rapidly expanding in major cities like Tokyo and Osaka, simultaneously reducing abandoned farmland, advancing food education, and fostering community cohesion.
