Historic Kyoto machiya townhouses have been revitalized as nighttime cultural venues including izakayas, galleries, and live performance spaces. These traditional wooden buildings preserve Kyoto's historical atmosphere while offering modern nightlife experiences. Unlike the geisha traditions of Gion and Pontocho, they represent accessible, grassroots Kyoto evening culture that welcomes visitors and locals alike.

以京都市祇園、先斗町等花街為代表的藝妓文化。承襲自江戶時代的傳統，訓練有素的女性藝能者「藝妓」在茶屋、料亭的宴席中展演傳統藝術。作為日本傳統表演藝術的象徵，在國內外均享有崇高的評價。目前約有80名以上的藝妓在京都活動，亦吸引眾多觀光客預訂宴席體驗。
