Awaji Ningyo Joruri

A distinctive fusion of puppet theater and joruri narrative music that flourished in Osaka. Multiple puppeteers manipulate life-sized dolls while a narrator tells the story accompanied by shamisen music. Registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008, it represents over 400 years of theatrical tradition and remains one of Japan's most refined performing arts.
