Sugawara no Michizane Cult and Plum Culture

An annual plum blossom festival held at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto from early February to early March. Featuring approximately 50 varieties of 1,500 plum trees in bloom, it celebrates the shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning. Tea ceremonies and outdoor tea services enhance the experience, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors celebrating early spring.
